For several years, I have lived under the landing and take-off zone of Hill Air Force Base.

For 40 years, HAFB has been a critical home to the F-16 Fighter Jet.

The small, sleek silver tubes have a particular pitch as they break the sound barrier, or come whooshing in over our heads.

No one even notices after a few years.

Those days are gone.

The F16s have left – all of them.  They have been replaced by the high tech F35s with split tails.

The heftier, faster F35s make a much louder, and much deeper sound as they roar over head.

We can’t help but notice.
