DCbikesEstimates of about one million Harley Davidson motorcycle riders and friends honored those who died on 9/11.

As the NY Daily News reported, “Gov. Cuomo and Billy Joel lead motorcycle ride to Ground Zero, retracing route  taken  by firefighters on 9/11”

“Cuomo, on a black Harley-Davidson, and songwriter Joel, on a blue-and-white  Drifter, led dozens of bikers from the Rescue 1 firehouse on W. 43rd St. to the  World Trade Center site.”

“The governor addressed his fellow riders as part of a Ground Zero short ceremony  at the ride’s conclusion. He spoke on a stage displaying wreckage from the  attacks, including two battered police car doors.”

The Washington D.C. NBC TV channel covered the event, noting, “Although they didn’t reach a goal of two million riders, thousands of bikers rolled through the Washington, D.C. area to mark the 12th anniversary of 9/11 on Wednesday.”

“. . . a Desert Storm veteran and full-time firefighter, came down from New Jersey to be a part of the ride. He remembers vividly what the day was like for one of his friends in New York City who rushed into the World Trade Center to help.”
